Substituting Yarns in Linden Vest
In my Linden Vest (Rav Link/Payhip Link), I use The Fibre Co Cirro as Color B. It is a lovely DK weight, fuzzy yarn. However, it comes in a limited color palette, and I understand that sometimes we want something more fun or maybe even indie dyed!
So, when I paired up with Republica Unicornia for my Linden Button Up (Rav Link/Payhip Link), I knew I needed to figure out a good sub for Cirro. Luckily, Kathleen has a number of fuzzy bases, and I swatched her Suri Silk Floof, and found a nice balance of airy but not TOO airy. However, I know that both some of you may already have some mohair lace laying around already OR maybe you don’t like fuzzy. So, I created a swatch to demo a few options.
From top to bottom: fingering weight, lace weight mohair, and lace weight suri.
The fingering weight is nice and drapey without being too see through. A great option to change up the appearance and texture of the fabric without having to use any fuzzy yarns.
The mohair is more airy, but actually more floofy as well. Out of the 3 options, it creates the biggest halo, if that’s your thing. Another option that is not pictured is to use the mohair doubled, if you want a denser fabric.
And lastly, the suri floof. It is airy, but also more dense a fabric than the mohair. For me, this was the balance that I loved. A delicate fluff, but not too see through.
A last option could be holding any of these together. Color A is a smooth DK yarn, and anything that works to the correct gauge for the stitch pattern is definitely valid! Some testers used both colors as a smooth DK, another used the fingering weight bumpy (not quite boucle, not quite thick and thin) yarn, so the options really are endless!
Regardless your choice, I’m sure your Linden will be gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see yours! <3
